The 2013 Montana legislative session has been tough on Montana’s wildlife. In particular, bison have been at the center of a debate about whether wildlife can co-exist with Montana’s farms and ranches and what areas may be appropriate for future restoration efforts. This session, the legislature has introduced more than 10 bills specifically targeting bison—an attempt by a select few legislators to derail tribal and state led restoration efforts. While tribes, sportsmen and conservationists have successfully worked together to defeat many of these bills early in the legislative session, five bills remain active and would negatively impact current and future bison management and restoration efforts. On Tuesday, March 12, we urge bison allies to descend on the Capitol to tell their legislators “Bison Deserve a Future in Montana”!
